Undy 1-2 Ammanford FC

Yesterday was a day of mixed feelings at the Causeway. We were pleased to welcome this year's first team sponsors, Clearwater Financial Solutions for their first of what we hope will be many visits. We also had a great response to our 'Wear your club shirts' kids appeal which saw a crowd of over 100 attend the fixture and of course, the game itself which saw us succumb to a 2:1 home defeat at the hands of Ammanford AFC.

The main talking points of what was a very tight game came mainly in the first half. Ammanford took the lead in the first minute following a sublime defence splitting pass from their left back caught both Clayton and Smallcombe out, allowing the centre forward to toe poke the opener passed a stranded Smallcombe into the bottom corner. The centre forward could count himself lucky as on the 35 min a tussle for the ball with Clayton saw the forward kick out at the Undy player after the ball had been cleared. The offence drew a yellow card which could easily have been a red had the linesman seen the offence.

Undy equalised whilst very much in the ascendancy, having the lions share of possession but finding the Ammanford defence hard to penetrate. A scramble in the Ammanford box saw the ball cleared, falling to Undys impressive young midfielder, Sam Broadribb. Who delighted the crowd and bench by lashing the ball, left footed past the despairing dive of Ammanford keeper in to the net. H.T 1:1

The second half was again Undy with large periods of possession but unable to crack the Ammanford defence, although two Tom Wright headers did have the keeper worried as he watched them loop on to the roof of the bet. The deciding goal came from the penalty spot around 75mins. Chris Party adjudged to of brought down the very impressive Ammanford substitute forward. The electric pace that he displayed allowed him to burst forward in to the box a draw a mistimed tackle from Party, who in the process injured his ankle.

Undy pressed in the dying stages of the game but we're unable to unlock the Ammanford defence who held out for the away victory.

Next week we travel to Championship South new boys, Swansea University. If you're interested in joining the travelling band of regular supporters, please comment in the Undy AFC Facebook page comments section or on our @undyafc Twitter page and we'll let you know travel arrangements when finalised.
